Samui airport is a private airport and so owned by Bangkok
Airways. Good or bad, this is the only way to arrive on Koh Samui by flight.
You will be rewarded by its lovely sight and atmosphere. We sometimes wonder
about the staff working here, as almost every one is working outside (there are
no actual buildings in this airport, just grass roofing shading the sun). How
come they all look so cool and unbothered in 35 degrees Celsius without air
condition? Well, this is a tropical paradise and I have to say I'm glad there
still are places like this in the world. If you ever get a chance, go to Samui,
if for no other reason, just to experience the airport! The airport of Ko Samui
is the most beautiful of the world. Relatively small however with marvelously
maintained gardens it surrounds, a romantic transport vehicle that brings one
from the airplane to the terminal and nice helpful personnel. The new
international terminal offers a perfect service by the check in and visa
formalities and the latest in security and safety facilities. Samui airport now
offers the opportunity with many International airlines to check your
luggage through to your end destination and stay in the Bangkok Airport transit
area. A Boeing 727 was recently added to the fleet, which makes the 1 hour 10
minutes flight from Bangkok to Samui even more comfortable. Look out for it ,
when checking the time table, as for the moment it is used only three times a
day. Ask for row 1 or row 16. Good for long legged people as on these seats you
do not have somebody in front of you.
